Hartford Courant August 18, 2008 - "Since You Asked" column, says:
- flag made official in 1897
- original seal had 15 grapevines, not our 3
- 1639 - English colonel George Fenwick used the original seal at Saybrook Colony (see our "Old Saybrook")
- 1711 -CT made a new seal, with the 3 grapevines perhaps to represent the then CT colonies or plantations of New Haven, Saybrook, and "Connecticut."
Or, is this from Psalm 80, "Thou has brought a vine out of Eqypt and planted it." Selah.
